About Us
The Sandhills Budgerigar Society was founded in Fayetteville, NC by Larry
and Dinah Moore, Kay and Elbert Edge, Sue Simmons and James Peterson in
1995. Active members of the American Budgerigar Society, the club affiliated
with ABS and held an annual budgie show in Fayetteville until Larry and
Dinah moved to Whiteville and the show was moved there. In 2004, the Sandhills
Budgerigar Society moved club meetings back to the Fayetteville area on
a monthly basis and the club grew in number (See member profiles). Today,
the president is Larry Moore, the vice president is Carl Miller, the secretary/treasurer
is Paul Orndorff , and Dinah Moore and Val Miller are also active members.
The webmaster is Courtney Rousseau. The members are from North Carolina,
South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia. Most of the members are breeders/exhibitors
of English Budgies, however some members simply enjoy the company of their
pet budgies. All budgie lovers are welcome! Currently, three ABS judges
and the District 11 Director are members of the SBS. Dan Outzs, former 2nd
Vice-President of ABS and author of the "All About
" series
of books and the book "Best of ABS", is also a member of SBS.
The club proudly boasts of members from novice to champion, pet owners to
breeders. The Sandhills Budgerigar Society has attended bird fairs in the
southeast United States to raise funds and add members to the club and to
ABS. The proceeds of the bird fair activities go towards the annual SBS
Budgie Show held in Fayetteville, NC.
